Privacy Policy

What stays in your browser, what we collect, how optional cloud features will work, and the choices you have.

Last updated:

The short version. Your CAN logs and DBC files are parsed and decoded inside your browser. Conversion also runs locally. Cloud projects and storage are optional; nothing is uploaded unless you choose to save it. Team workspaces require an active eligible plan. We collect only what we need to run your account, and we never sell personal data.

Who we are

This policy covers Canmetry, the website at https://canmetry.com and the in-browser workbench at /analyze (together, the "Service"). "We", "us" and "our" mean the operator of the Service.

Your log files stay on your machine

When you open a .blf, .mf4, .asc, .csv or .log file, or attach a .dbc, the file is read by a Web Worker in the browser tab you are using. Parsing, decoding, plotting and CSV export all happen locally. The contents of these files are not sent to us.

These actions can send data to us, and both require your choice:

  1. Cloud projects and file uploads. Saving a cloud project stores analysis settings, including log and DBC file names, but not the file contents. If you separately choose to upload a log or DBC file to cloud storage, that file is stored so authorized users can retrieve it.
  2. AI assistant. If you send a message in the assistant panel, we send your message together with limited context about the open log (file name, duration, and the names and metadata of decoded signals) to our AI provider to generate a reply. Raw frame data is not included. Do not put confidential information in chat messages.

File converters

The BLF to MAT and MF4 to MAT/CSV converters run in your browser exactly like the workbench: the log is read, decoded with your DBC files and written to a .mat or .csv file on your own device. The log, the DBC files and the converted file are not sent to us.

Cloud storage and team workspaces

Cloud projects require an account; cloud file uploads also require configured storage. Paid team features require an active eligible plan; see the Pricing page for current availability and limits.

  • Cloud projects store the settings you configured in the workbench, such as channel mapping, DBC file names, signal lists and layout.
  • Cloud file storage stores only logs and DBC files you explicitly upload. You can delete files that are no longer attached to a project; deleting a project does not automatically delete its files.
  • Team workspaces let an owner or administrator invite members as administrators, editors or read-only viewers. Members can read workspace files; owners and administrators can manage members. The owner can delete the workspace after its paid subscription ends.
  • The Pricing page describes storage limits and plan availability. We will update this policy if the way we handle your data changes.

Cookies and local storage

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your language. The workbench uses your browser's local storage for preferences such as theme and layout. If analytics is enabled, it may set its own cookies to measure aggregate usage; we do not use advertising cookies.

How we use information

  • To provide the Service, including sign-in, cloud projects and the AI assistant.
  • To process payments and send receipts and account notices.
  • To respond to support requests.
  • To detect, prevent and investigate abuse, fraud and security incidents.
  • To understand aggregate usage and improve the Service.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use the contents of your logs or projects to train AI models.

Service providers

We share data only with providers that help us run the Service, and only what each one needs:

  • Hosting and storage (for example Cloudflare) for serving the site and storing cloud projects.
  • Authentication through Google or GitHub, if you choose to sign in with them.
  • AI provider (currently DeepSeek) for assistant replies, as described above.
  • Payment processors (such as Stripe, PayPal, Alipay or WeChat Pay) for paid plans.
  • Email delivery (such as Resend) for verification and account emails.
  • Analytics, if enabled, for aggregate usage statistics.

We may also disclose information when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users or the Service.

Retention

Account data is kept while your account is active. Cloud projects are kept until you delete them or close your account. Uploaded files remain until you delete them or the owning workspace is deleted; deleting a project alone does not remove its files. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and debugging. Records we must keep for tax or accounting purposes are kept for as long as the law requires.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit with HTTPS and access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as required by law.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can update your profile and delete projects in your account settings. For anything else, open a support ticket from your account and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

The Service is intended for professional and educational use and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their personal data.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email or in the Service before the changes take effect.
